Dr. Marco Infante

BIOGRAPHY & CV

Marco Infante obtained his M.D. degree with honors at Sapienza University of Rome in October 2014. In 2015, he started working at the Department of Systems Medicine of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he took part in the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Fellowship Program. During his fellowship, he was involved in clinical activities at the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders & Diabetic Foot Unit of Policlinico Tor Vergata University Hospital, and at the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes of CTO Andrea Alesini & Sant’Eugenio Hospitals (Rome). In November 2019, he received the Board Certification in Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders, with honors, at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. In February 2023, he obtained the Ph.D. degree in Systems and Experimental Medicine (European Ph.D. Label) at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, with the final evaluation of “Excellent quality, with honors”.

 

Starting from January 2019, Dr. Infante has been serving as a Research Scholar at the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (Miami, FL, USA), where he has been involved in clinical research in the field of type 1 diabetes mellitus, pancreatic islet transplantation, diabetes technology and immunotherapies for treatment of type 1 diabetes. Also, he has been participating in the Collaborative Islet Transplant Registry (CITR), an international registry aimed to expedite progress and promote safety in pancreatic islet transplantation through the collection, analysis, and communication of comprehensive and current data on all islet transplants performed in North America and in some European, Australian and Asian centers.

Dr. Infante is a member of several national and international scientific organizations and societies, including the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the International Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association (IPITA), the Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE), the Italian Society of Diabetology (SID), and the Diabetes Research Institute Federation (DRIFRome Chapter, University of Rome Tor Vergata), a global alliance of researchers who are focused on the cure research for type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Starting from January 2020, he has been serving as the Managing Editor of CellR4, an open access, peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary international journal with a particular focus on cellular repair, replacement, regeneration, reprogramming and differentiation, and a scope ranging from fundamental new discoveries in basic science to translational medicine, clinical trials and delivery of novel therapeutic options. Starting from December 2020, Dr. Infante has been serving as an Associate Editor of the international peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes and Healthcare. In November 2021, Dr. Infante has been appointed Academic Editor of the Journal of Diabetes Research (Hindawi publisher).

Moreover, he is currently serving on the Editorial Board of the international peer-reviewed journals Frontiers in EndocrinologyFrontiers in Public HealthFrontiers in Immunology, and World Journal of Clinical Cases. He also serves as an Ad Hoc Reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals, such as Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism (Wiley), BMJ Open, iScience (Cell Press), eBioMedicine (The Lancet Group), Diabetic Medicine (Wiley), Journal of Diabetes and its Complications, Journal of Diabetes Investigation (Wiley), Canadian Journal of Diabetes (CJD), Frontiers in Endocrinology, Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Public Health, World Journal of Diabetes, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Journal of Clinical Medicine, Journal of the American College of Nutrition, Nutrients, Healthcare, SAGE Open Medicine, European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Biomarkers in Medicine, and Biology (MDPI), among others. He authored numerous publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several invited book chapters and editorials. He gave lectures at national and international meetings, and participated in several national and international training courses, expert meetings, conferences and conventions as a speaker or faculty member.  He served as the Academic Editor of the book entitled “Evolving Concepts in Insulin Resistance”, that was published in December 2022 by IntechOpen publisher.

He is also a Specialist in Ultrasonography of the Endocrine Neck. He received the Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound and the Advanced Diploma in Ultrasound in Endocrinology, which have been issued by the Italian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB) in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

In May 2020, Dr. Infante has been appointed Distinguished Supervisor for the international Network of Immunity in Infection, Malignancy and Autoimmunity (NIIMA) of the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN).

Starting from July 2020, he has been holding the position of Adjunct Professor of Endocrinology at UniCamillus, Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences – Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (Rome, Italy).

In April 2021, Dr. Infante received the designation as Fellow of the American College of Nutrition (FACN) by virtue of his research activity in the field of “Immunomodulatory Nutrition”.

In July 2022, he has been appointed Adjunct Professor of Applied Nutrition in Internal Medicine at the Master Degree Course in Human Nutrition Sciences of UniCamillus, Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences (Rome, Italy). 

In recognition of his significant scientific contributions to the field of diabetes mellitus, in August 2023 Dr. Marco Infante has been inducted, as a Full Member, into the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society, the world’s largest interdisciplinary scientific honor society founded in 1886 at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA).
